8분 분량

This FAQ answers 25 common questions about the GEO strategy models proposed by Jace Shim in the Korean-language book AI 승자독식 (Raonbook Plus, 2026): 3C-AI, VRIO-D, STQP, E-E-A-T-C, the Citation Gap, and the Winner Takes the Answer Framework. [1]

Each answer is written to be understood on its own, and each points to the article that explains the topic in depth. The answers distinguish the author's proposals from established theory and from official platform guidance. If you are new to the series, start with the overview, Jace Shim's Four GEO Strategy Models and the Winner Takes the Answer Framework.

Part 1. GEO basics

1. What is GEO?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization: preparing a brand so that generative AI systems — AI assistants and AI search summaries — mention it accurately, cite it as evidence, and recommend it to the right customers. The term was formalized academically by Aggarwal and colleagues in a KDD 2024 paper. [2] In AI 승자독식, Jace Shim frames the goal of GEO as accurate representation rather than mere exposure. [1] Read more in the overview.

2. How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO aims to be found in search results and to earn visits. GEO aims to be mentioned, cited, and recommended inside AI answers — and to be described correctly there. AI 승자독식 treats SEO, AEO, and GEO not as a staircase but as layers, with SEO remaining the foundation of GEO. Google likewise says foundational SEO best practices still apply to its AI features. [3] See Table 1 in the overview.

3. Are AEO and GEO the same thing?

The terms are often used interchangeably, but AI 승자독식 distinguishes them. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) provides answers used directly for a question; GEO deals with mentions, citations, recommendations, and their accuracy inside generated answers that blend several sources. Their units of content also differ: AEO works with question-and-answer pairs, GEO with passages that keep their meaning when excerpted. [1]

4. Can GEO guarantee the top spot in AI answers?

No. AI selection methods are not public, differ by service, and keep changing. Shim's GEO models address what a company can control: the material an AI system may draw on — accurate evidence, clear conditions, and accessible pages. [1] See "What these models do not claim" in the overview.

Part 2. Why a company does not appear in AI answers

5. What is the Citation Gap?

The Citation Gap is the difference between the competitiveness a company actually has and the competitiveness that generative AI answers convey to customers. Jace Shim proposed the concept in AI 승자독식 (Raonbook Plus, 2026). It appears in four types: invisible, used without a name, misrepresented, and defined by others. [1] See Table 5 in the overview.

6. What is GEO Winner-Takes-All?

GEO Winner-Takes-All is the phenomenon in which generative AI repeatedly includes companies and sources that are already widely mentioned, concentrating attention and trust on a few winners. It is the phenomenon the book's title refers to. Unlike a filter bubble, it focuses on how many people sharing the same answer can narrow the choices of an entire market. [1]

7. Are small companies at a disadvantage in GEO?

They can be for broad questions. For specific questions that include conditions such as region, industry, or company size, accurate evidence can matter more than fame. AI 승자독식 recommends that small companies use STQP to choose narrow, specific questions and build accurate evidence for them. [1] Read more in STQP.

Part 3. 3C-AI — competitive analysis in the AI era

8. What is 3C-AI?

3C-AI is a strategy analysis model that examines the relationship among Company, Customer, and Competitor while reviewing how AI's selection of information and construction of answers affect which alternatives and strengths reach the customer. It builds on Kenichi Ohmae's 3C analysis and was proposed by Jace Shim in AI 승자독식, Chapter 4. [1][4] Read more in 3C-AI.

9. Is AI the fourth "C" — a fourth competitor — in 3C-AI?

No. 3C-AI treats AI not as a competitor but as an intermediary that selects and conveys information among the company, customers, and competitors. It shapes which candidates are compared and on which criteria. [1]

10. How should competitors be defined in the AI era?

3C-AI defines competitors by customer question, not by industry classification. The same company may compete with substitutes from other categories, or with the option of not buying at all, depending on the question, so a separate competitive map is drawn for each important question. [1] See Table 3 in 3C-AI.

Part 4. VRIO-D — making strengths visible to AI

11. What is VRIO-D?

VRIO-D adds Discoverability to Jay B. Barney's VRIO framework (Value, Rarity, Inimitability, Organization). It analyzes whether the value a resource creates can be discovered and verified in AI-mediated information search. Jace Shim proposed it in AI 승자독식, Chapter 5. [1][5] Read more in VRIO-D.

12. Our technology is strong. Why doesn't our company appear in AI answers?

Seen through VRIO-D, many such companies score well on Value, Rarity, Inimitability, and Organization but low on Discoverability. AI systems cannot read internal files; they work from public information. Strengths whose test conditions, results, scope, and limits are not published are hard for an AI answer to use. [1] See "The three layers of Discoverability" in VRIO-D.

13. Does improving Discoverability mean publishing everything?

No. The VRIO-D principle is "protect the source, show the result." Keep process know-how and raw data private; publish test conditions, measured results, scope of application, and limits. [1] See Table 3 in VRIO-D.

Part 5. STQP — positioning around customer questions

14. What is STQP?

STQP inserts Question Mapping between Targeting and Positioning in the STP sequence (Segmentation, Targeting, Positioning) systematized by Kotler and Keller. It designs positioning by connecting target customers' decision questions and conditions with the brand's strengths and evidence. Jace Shim proposed it in AI 승자독식, Chapter 6. [1][6] Read more in STQP.

15. How does Question Mapping differ from keyword research?

Keyword research looks at the words customers use and how often they search; Question Mapping looks at the decisions, conditions, and constraints behind those words. The two are complementary: keyword research maps broad interest, and Question Mapping maps the specific decisions inside it. [1] See Table 2 in STQP.

16. How do you choose which customer questions to compete on?

STQP prioritizes questions using four criteria: business value, evidence availability, information scarcity, and repeated inquiry. Start with five to ten questions you can win and that generate revenue when you do. [1] See Table 4 in STQP.

Part 6. E-E-A-T-C — content that keeps its meaning when cited

17. What is E-E-A-T-C?

E-E-A-T-C adds Citability to Google's E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness), so that trustworthy information keeps its meaning, conditions, and source when it is excerpted into an AI answer. It is an extension proposed by Jace Shim in AI 승자독식, Chapter 7, not an official Google standard. [1][7] Read more in E-E-A-T-C.

18. What makes up Citability?

Citability rests on three conditions: standalone comprehension (a single paragraph makes clear what it is about), preservation of conditions (period, audience, version, and plan sit next to the claim), and source traceability (readers can follow the claim to its source and method). [1] See Table 2 in E-E-A-T-C.

19. How do you write content that AI can cite accurately?

E-E-A-T-C aims for content that is hard to quote wrongly, not merely easy to quote. Name the subject explicitly, attach conditions to words such as "free," "unlimited," and "up to," and separate explanatory paragraphs from sales copy. [1] See the passage audit (Table 5) in E-E-A-T-C.

20. Will FAQs, tables, or structured data get content cited by AI?

Format can help, but it does not guarantee citation. Google states that no special AI-specific markup or structured data is required to appear in its AI features. [3] E-E-A-T-C recommends deciding first what to claim and which conditions and evidence support it, and only then choosing a format. [1]

Part 7. Integration, measurement, and execution

21. What is the Winner Takes the Answer Framework?

The Winner Takes the Answer Framework (WTA Framework) is an integrated model that narrows the citation gap through a cycle: read the competition with 3C-AI, select resources with VRIO-D, choose questions with STQP, explain evidence with E-E-A-T-C, then measure and read the competition again. Jace Shim proposed it in AI 승자독식, Chapter 13. [1] See Table 4 in the overview.

22. In what order are the four models used?

Competition (3C-AI), resources (VRIO-D), questions (STQP), passages (E-E-A-T-C), then execution, measurement, and back to competition. When a problem appears at one stage, return to an earlier one — for example, if revising a passage reveals missing evidence, go back to VRIO-D. [1]

23. How is GEO performance measured?

AI 승자독식 recommends tracking four stages — mention, citation, recommendation, and conversion — alongside accuracy. Observe a fixed set of measurement questions repeatedly across several AI services, and ask customers directly on sign-up or quote forms: "Where did you first hear about us?" [1] See Table 6 in the overview.

24. Where should a company start with GEO?

The first 30 days are for diagnosis. Build a set of 30 measurement questions from real customer questions, record current mentions and accuracy in three AI services, and run one flagship resource through VRIO-D. [1] See the 90-day plan (Table 7) in the overview.

25. Is GEO a job for the marketing department?

Not only. AI 승자독식 treats GEO as management work rather than a content task. Competitive awareness, resource disclosure, product promises, and the customer questions heard by sales and support must move together for the citation gap to narrow. [1]
